A day on the water
Whether you have energy to burn, or you want to take in the region from a different angle, Noosa boasts an abundance of water-based activities for every member of the family.From swimming and surfing to jet skiing and ferry rides, try something new this holiday … there is plenty to inspire (and challenge) every ability and interest.
SUP
Stand Up Paddle (SUP) is a great way to get active with the kids, challenge your balance (and core muscles) and of course, enjoy plenty of laughs. Originating from Hawaii, SUP is the fastest growing water sport in the world, and is suitable for all ages and abilities. A number of companies along Noosa’s extensive waterways offer lessons and hire – making it the ideal place to create some family fun memories on the water.
Jet Ski
For something a little more high octane, you can also try Jet Skiing. Noosa’s river setting is great for beginners and parents wanting to double the kids, while the ocean is great for adventure-seekers wanting to put their foot down, jump waves and check out the Noosa points.
Noosa Ferry
Like Uber on water, the Noosa Ferry is the perfect mode of transport for families exploring the local sights.
For a unique Noosa experience, take a leisurely classic ferry ride … you can hop on and off at any of the seven pick up points as you please, enjoying the incredible local birdlife, basking in the fresh ocean air, and feasting on a riverside lunch as you go.
Sand hopping
Whether you are bobbing around on an inflatable swim toy, soaking up the rays between pages of your favourite novel or enjoying the endless people watching, Noosa’s beaches have it all.
Noosa is famous for its glorious, protected shores and bays; from the iconic Main Beach to the less frequented Tea Tree Bay and Little Cove.
Main Beach is fringed with exceptional eateries and world class boutiques, and is patrolled all year round.
Tea Tree and Little Cove are lined with pandanus trees and renowned for their beauty and world class surfing conditions. Tea Tree Bay has even been named by “Best Beaches” judges as one of Australia’s top 10 beaches (of the 11,000 plus to have been visited).
Getting to these gems is half the fun; the newly refurbished boardwalk is easy walking for all ages as it leads you on a breathtaking discovery of the coastline’s cliffs, beaches, bays and surf spots.
A home among the gum trees
There are very few places that you can spot a koala or echidna while taking in the ocean views.
Noosa National Park is home to both of these Aussie icons, as well as countless lizards, birds and other bushland creatures.
Pack your camera and a sharp eye and you may leave with some incredible holiday happy snaps.
Worked up a hunger?
After all that adventure, your stomach is bound to be rumbling.
A simple meal at the local “surfy” is a quintessential Queensland experience, and in terms of location, it doesn’t get much better than the Noosa Surf Club.
Offering fresh feasts (including a great “nippers” menu for the littlies) with a sea breeze, it’s the closest you can get to the beach without having the sand between your toes.
If you are looking to indulge in dessert, the iconic Massimos is famed for its gelatis, which come in decadent flavours like pistachio, cinnamon and blueberry cheesecake, as well as the tried and tested family favourites, like chocolate, vanilla and mango sorbet.
Looking to treat the kids without lashings of added nasties? Hastings Street hotspot Coconut Head serves up plant based, superfoods including the most delicious cakes that are free of refined sugars! Select from raw cakes, smoothies, acai and poke bowls, chia seed cups, salads and snacks and taste the sunshine in every mouthful.
